History about illinois

The history of Illinois may be defined by the pre-Columbian period, the Era of European Exploration, Colonization, and the American frontier. The word Illinois comes from the French word meaning "Illini or Land of Illini. Illinois was discovered in 1673. Illinois became a state in 1818. The settling of Illinois started from the south along the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers and worked its way northward. Abraham Lincoln was born and raised in Illinois. Illinois has a varied history in relation to slavery and the treatment of Afican American in general. During the Civil War, over 250,000 Illinois men served in the Union Army, coming 4th among the states. Beginning with President Lincoln's first call for troops and continuing throughout the war, Illinois mustered 150 infantry regiments which were numbered from the 7th IL to the 156th IL.  https://www.usgennet.org/usa/il/state/
